Eversheds Sutherland Continues California Growth with Addition of Former US National Security Prosecutor S. Waqar Hasib

Based in the Firm’s Silicon Valley office, he joins the firm directly from the US Attorney’s Office, Northern District of California, where he served as an Assistant United States Attorney handling national security matters for over two decades. A seasoned first-chair litigator who has tried 12 federal cases, Mr. Hasib also has deep international experience, having served as the US Department of Justice’s Resident Legal Advisor for North Africa, where he was a trusted advisor to US and foreign government agency heads and regulators on anti-money laundering issues.

His arrival follows the February 2026 addition of Litigation partner Peter Meier and builds on the firm's July 2025 launch of its Silicon Valley office with partner Bradford Newman, leader of Eversheds Sutherland's Silicon Valley and Complex Technology Disputes practice. Together, these additions highlight the firm’s continued growth in Northern California and bolster its capabilities in complex investigations, enforcement matters and high-stakes litigation.

Mr. Hasib most recently served as the chief of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit for NDCA, where he directed complex, high-risk litigation on a global scale. Over the course of his career, he led investigations and prosecutions involving tariff evasion, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), export controls, trafficking, online child safety, smuggling of dual-use technology, RICO, public corruption and national security.

So far in 2026, the firm has expanded its Litigation bench with the additions of partners Alexandra Chopin and Ellen Connell in Washington, DC, Peter Meier in Silicon Valley, Eric Kristiansen and Ryan Pittman in Houston and Michael Robotti in New York.
