Islamic finance has become increasingly important throughout the world as transactions become more globalized and funding is sought from lenders in the Middle East region. We have long recognized this trend and created a team of lawyers in the Middle East who can manage the issues involved on your behalf. We provide advice to lenders and borrowers in connection with a range of Sharia compliant products and transactions.
Our experience covers all areas of Islamic finance and we regularly work with leading Islamic financial institutions, conventional banks and corporates to develop Sharia compliant products.
Our lawyers are experienced in all aspects of Islamic finance. Our experience includes advising:
- a syndicate of Middle East banks on a US$2.5bn duel-trach (conventional and Islamic) facility to be made available to a GCC oil company
- a UAE conglomerate on a US$227m Islamic syndicated financing package for the development of 13 sites across the UAE
- a Middle East investment bank in relation to a US$25m Islamic trade finance facility made available to an oil company, secured against the sale of receivables and other assets in Congo, Norway, Morocco and England
- a Saudi investment company on a SAR1.4bn syndicated Islamic facility for the acquisition of several malls in Saudi Arabi
- a Middle East financier on a US$20m Wakala trade agency agreement
- a Middle East bank in relation to a US$110m syndicated Murabaha and Mudaraba, led by the Islamic Trade Finance Corporation
- the financer on a US$150m syndicated Murabaha and Mudaraba lending to a regional sovereign entity, led by the Islamic Trade Finance Corporation
- the financier on a US$210m syndicated Murabaha and Mudaraba lending to a global sugar conglomerate, led by the Islamic Trade Finance Corporation
- a financial institution in the Middle East investing in a US$249m syndicated Murabaha structured trade finance transaction, led by the Islamic Trade Finance Corporation
- a syndicate of UAE based banks on the US$85m syndicated facilities (both conventional and Islamic) to a regional company, with asset security over real estate in several Emirates, shares and bank accounts
"Overall I would call out Eversheds Sutherland for being super responsive on our last transaction. The team fully aligned with the client side and we avoided the need for lengthy video calls to explain the commercial position."
