Marjolein practices in the areas of EU and Belgian competition law. She has over 15 years of experience advising on merger control, competition investigations and sector inquiries, and state aid. Marjolein also advises on foreign direct investment and national security control as well as competition law related questions in the fields of ESG, patent licensing, and routes to market. Marjolein has represented clients before the EU, UK and Belgian competition authorities and courts. She is qualified in Belgium and New York and registered as a foreign lawyer in the UK.
Marjolein has worked for multinationals across different sectors including, energy and commodities, financial services, manufacturing, media, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, technology and the internet of things, and transport and logistics.
Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Marjolein worked at other international law firms in Brussels, London and New York.

- Representing several multinationals in the European Commission’s investigation of Google’s abuse of dominance practices and other investigations in the digital sector, including Ofcom’s cloud sector inquiry
- Advising a stakeholder in the SEP licensing business regarding EU antitrust law and advising them on their defense against court actions alleging EU antitrust infringements
- Advising a pharmaceutical company regarding an investigation and litigation in relation to abuse of dominance through patent enforcement
- Advising Aer Lingus in connection with IAG’s acquisition of Aer Lingus, on its defense of successive hostile takeover bids by Ryanair and appeals in the EU’s General Court, and in UK investigations into Ryanair’s minority shareholding in Aer Lingus and related UK appeals
- Advising a capacitor manufacturer in relation with the European Commission’s cartel investigation into the electrolytic capacitor market
- Advising the Coal Marketing Company during 15 years on EU competition law issues
- Advising stakeholders in the airline sector in state aid investigations
- Advising Groupe Rossel on the acquisition of RTL Belgium with DPG Media during the Belgian Competition Authority’s investigation and the appeal procedure
- Advising various clients, including training sessions and audits, regarding ways to market and distribution issues
- Advising various clients on multijurisdictional merger control and foreign direct investment filings
Marjolein frequently publishes and speaks at conferences on key competition law developments and reforms.
