Antonio Cuéllar is Partner and Head of the Tax Department at the Eversheds Sutherland Madrid office.
With more than 25 years of experience, Antonio is a renowned expert advising both national and international clients on the tax implications of commercial transactions relating to mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructurings; he also advises in real estate taxation and private client tax planning; Antonio often represents clients before the Spanish tax authorities, tax tribunals and judicial courts.
For more than 20 years now, Antonio has been a professor of tax law at the IE Law School.

Some of the projects Antonio and his team have advised on include:
- advising VOLVO’s Spanish subsidiary, Volvo Ocean Race, S.L., on the sale of the business of organizing and operating the round the world board race known as the Volvo Ocean Race
- advising BANCO INVERSIS on the tax consequences of the company’s headquarters’ sale, which required a complex and preceding procedure with the municipal tax authorities, since the corresponding building had been wrongly classified for cadastral purposes
- advising AECOM INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT on the tax implications of the Spanish subsidiary’s sale. The transaction included the incorporation of key Spanish management as shareholders of the foreign acquiring vehicle. It also included the design of an attractive remuneration package for key Spanish management that would stay on board
- advising ERA CAPITAL on the joint venture formed by an international fund comprising investors from Canada, Israel and the US (ERA CAPITAL) and a Spanish medium sized promoter (CONSTRUCCIONES BARBA), with the aim of acquiring, refurbishing and selling a historical building in the center of Madrid
- advising an EU CITIZEN in an Inheritance Tax controversy with the Spanish Tax Authorities which is being dealt with at the National Audience Court (Audiencia Nacional)
- advising an ONLINE SALES COMPANY on the tax consequences (direct, indirect, local, and regional taxation) of entering into PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) both physical and virtual with Spanish power developers
- advising a UNIVERSITY on the connection with the Spanish operations of the University (which qualifies as a charity) and its relationship with the Spanish Supervisory Authorities
