Wes serves clients in federal income tax matters, including domestic and international tax planning and transactional matters involving partnerships, limited liability companies, corporations and REITs. He regularly represents clients in mergers and acquisitions, in joint venture formations, investments and restructurings, and in transactions involving tax equity and tax credits. In addition, Wes represents clients in federal tax controversies, defending them in IRS audits and matters before the IRS Office of Appeals and the U.S. Tax Court.
Wes leads the firm’s energy tax subgroup and devotes a substantial part of his practice to serving clients in the energy sector, including on matters involving clean energy tax credits and other incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act.
Wes specializes in partnership tax and regularly advises clients on the BBA partnership audit rules. Wes teaches partnership tax as an adjunct professor at Emory University School of Law, and he previously taught business taxation as an adjunct professor at Georgia State University College of Law.

- Represents architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry clients in multiple acquisitions and dispositions of AEC industry services businesses.
- Advised in the sale of a majority equity interest in Element Markets, LLC to TPG’s The Rise Fund.
- Advised a multinational energy transportation company in a cross-border deal in connection with its divestment of a large transmission line in the West through the sale of Canadian and US entities owning relevant portions of the transmission line.
