We’re a practical and commercially minded group of lawyers, with offices across the world. From the first meeting we’ll ask you what you want to accomplish, and then we’ll come up with the best team to suit your needs, and the most cost-effective way of achieving it.
There’s a real breadth in our legal team’s experience, and we always take a holistic view of international trade. Our depth of knowledge across different disciplines, markets and aspects of international trade law ensures you always get well-informed, actionable legal advice.
When it comes to areas like sanctions, we understand that agility and responsiveness are vital. We know that the story you read on the front of the newspaper in the morning might well be changing the nature of your business by that afternoon. We understand your commercial imperatives and priorities, as much as we can help you with the legal fine print.
We know the questions you face are less often about whether something is against the law, than the best way of structuring, or evaluating and minimizing risk, across jurisdictions. We’ll take care of these complex legal challenges, so you can keep focused on securing the best results for your business.
Our global lawyers are experienced in all aspects of international trade law. Representative experience includes advising:
- a global sourcing company with regulatory issues related to the sourcing of infection control medical devices and personal protective equipment for hospitals throughout COVID-19
- an energy company with regular reports on COVID-19 regulatory developments across the UK, EU, US, Puerto Rico, Italy, Germany and France, including export/import restrictions, border closures, foreign direct investment, State aid measures, and workforce issues
- a defense company with intermediary due diligence and cross-border trade advice, and multijurisdictional licensing requirements for selling goods globally through a network of intermediaries and distributors. This covered registration/certification requirements, and export and import authorizations
- an international airline on UK, EU, US and Hong Kong export control and sanctions issues, including strategic considerations and specific considerations for sanctioned jurisdictions. We also completed a compliance audit and drafted a comprehensive trade compliance policy
- an international chemical company in light of the acquisition of a number of its EU entities on the obligation set out in the EU Energy Directive, across multiple EU member states
“The collaborative manner in which the practice is set up allows Eversheds Sutherland to serve as a primary point of contact for legal advice needed to support business globally. This saves the company time/resources and helps facilitate a consistent and reasonably digestible work product across a multitude of different circumstances.”
